Welcome to my blog! Thanks very much for stopping by, I appreciate it. My name is Michael Schafer and I’m your Wine Counselor. I promise to educate, inform and entertain you about wine, food and wine, travel and wine, all in a fun, easy to understand way.
One question I’m frequently asked: “What’s your favorite wine?”- that’s easy, the wine that I haven’t yet tasted with some wineaux friends.
What’s your favorite wine? Is it a succulent Sauvignon Blanc? A creamy Chardonnay? An elegant Pinot Noir? A big and bad Cabernet Sauvignon? A rich port? Let me know what your favorite wine is, and, just like in school, why it’s your favorite!

Hi Michael, tonight i’m having some pizza along with a glass of Rootstock Syrah, North Coast 2007. it’s a nice hearty red wine from Napa.
I’m looking forward to learning more about wine and reading your blog for some tips
cheers
Hi Mario,
Thanks for visiting my website! Glad you’re enjoying some juice with your pizza. Syrah is a great match with pizza. Other good pairings are Zinfandel, Chianti & Barbera.
Keep in touch & remember: I taste bad wine so you don’t have to.
WC
Allo to you Monsieur Wine Counselor,
Trying to pick just one favorite wine is much too difficult. Could it be the 6 liter 1986 Bordeaux I opened and drank while seated in my hot tub with many friends??? Non, I think it was an 375ml ice wine I drank with a certain someone en tete a tete style while camping in Vermont in March.
Ah Zeememories, perhaps it will be a very cold 2007 St-Francis Chardonny on a very hot Crystal Lake on a paddleboat called Le Nenuphar de Neptune… I have a bottle set aside for this very reason.
Tourlou,
Robert
Hi Robert,
Selecting a favorite wine is difficult. The time, the place, the food (if any), the company, the setting are all variables in selecting your favorite wine. Thanks for your comment, looking forward to assisting you in the future!
Thank you,
I thought I would give you “the rest of the story” so to speak…
You may recall my question regarding which wine to serve with French Onion Soup. I took your advice to heart and had both of your suggested wines on hand. A fruity Riesling and a sweeter soft red. I chose a Sangria.
Since I was only “garcon de vin” and it was not really my party I left the final decision up to the real hostest. She decided to go with the RED.
A final point I thought I would share came from one of the guests. She said: “I don’t normally drink red, BUT this is very nice!”
We did not consume as much wine as I originally thought, we finished the evening way short of the case that I had on had.
Merci, encore Monsieur WC we had lots of fun and even made a toast to our favorite Conseiller du Vin!
Robert
