Your Wine Counselor has been busy tasting tons of wines at all the fall wine shows. There are so many great wines available! Please send me a message asking for a suggestion-I’m happy to help you find the wine you’re looking for.

Greetings Mr wine counselor,
I’m wondering if you could shed some light on how tannins play a role in red wines, is less better?
Most recently, i had a 2009 Garnacha Red wine from Marques de Montanana (Spain). it was just OK for my taste. I’m looking for something smoother… any recommendations?
thanks for your insight as always.
Hi Mario,
Thanks for your question. If acidity is the nervous system of a wine then tannins are the skeleton. Tannins come from two sources, the skin of the grape itself and from the oak used to age the wine. Tannins are essential for a wine to age over time. Your selection is a young wine and garnacha (grenache in France) has a bit of tannin in the skin. You might want to try a Rioja Reserva or an older bottle from Priorat. Both Rioja and Priorat are regions in Spain. Australian shiraz can be a less tannic wine than most Spanish red wines. Pinot Noir from California is a softer red wine.
What other wines have you enjoyed? Your answer will help me to help you find your wine of choice!
